All items in the Media Catalog are categorized according to format.  Below are the types of resources and the description of each grouping.  Formats can be utilized as a filter to narrow down the number of selections within SNAP, the online catalog.  Materials are scheduled for the indicated default circulation period and can be extended online for an additional default time period.  Call 800-594-9494 (712-335-3588, extension 2051) if you have special requests.

Assistive Resources and Technology – a collection of materials designed for use by individuals with disabilities.  Default circulation period:  2 weeks.

Audio Book (Talking Book) – auditory format, generally audiocassettes, of literature.  Default circulation period:  1 week.

Boxed Books – includes big books, multiple copy sets, and multiple title sets.  Default circulation period:  2 weeks.

Boxed Books 2006+ - boxed book collections added 2006+.  Contains different titles on a variety of topics.  
Boxed Books – boxed book collections added before 2006.
Book kits with multiple copies – boxed book collections that contain multiple copies of a single title.     

Curriculum Lab -  includes textbooks and supporting materials , i.e. teacher guides,  for textbook review.  Default circulation period:  2 weeks.

Digital Audio – includes sound effects and other auditory recordings.  Default circulation period:  N/A.

Digital Video – includes streaming and downloadable full-length and clipped videos. Default circulation period:  N/A.

DVD – a collection of rich media materials on a wide variety of topics.  Often includes enhanced features on the digital video disc.  Default circulation period:  1 week.

Equipment – a small collection of equipment and devices to enhance student learning. Default circulation period:  1 week.

Electronic Journal – periodicals and newsletters that are accessible electronically.  Default circulation period:  N/A.

Images – photographs on a variety of subjects.   Default circulation period:  N/A.

K-12 Books – a collection of individual student books to provide print materials to supplement local curriculum resources.  Default circulation period:  3 weeks.

Magazines/Periodicals – a collection of various magazines and periodicals to support teachers in their professional growth.  Default circulation period:  1 week.

Models/Realia-  a collection of models and real life objects  used to improve students' understanding of real life situations and other cultures/time periods.  Default circulation period:  2 weeks.

Multimedia (Kits) -  are kits consisting  multiple formats and/or multiple parts.  Examples: Star Lab, Playaways, Multimedia Approach to Birds, etc.  Default circulation period:  2 weeks.

Other – materials not fitting within other categories.  Includes CDs, audiocassettes, laserdiscs, etc.  Default circulation period:  1 week.

Professional Books – a collection of print materials on topics pertinent to the educational professional.  Default circulation period:  2 weeks.

Professional Media – a collection of non-print materials on topics pertinent to the educational professional.  Default circulation period:  2 weeks.

Videocassette – a collection of ½” VHS materials on a wide variety of topics.  Default circulation period:  1 week.
