The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), with the support of partners and experts in the field, the CDC has developed a tool kit for coaches titled, Heads Up: Concussion in High School Sports.

This kit contains practical, easy-to-use information including a video and DVD featuring a young athlete disabled by concussion, a guide, wallet card and clip board sticker for coaches, posters, fact sheets for parents and athletes in English and Spanish, and a CD-ROM with downloadable kit materials and additional concussion-related resources.

Purpose

The purpose of the Prairie Lakes AEA Brain Injury Resource Team is to ensure that students with brain injury will have their needs identified and met. Click here to contact the Brain Injury Resource Team.

Within the Brain Injury Resource Team...

Team members collaborate with AEA Core Teams to support:
  • Reintegration planning
  • General Education Intervention (GEI) process
  • Needs of families and schools
  • Educational planning to include: modifcations, accommodations and instructional strategies
  • Monitoring of progress and identification of future needs

Team members collaborate with AEA Core Teams to connect with resources:

Brain Injury Team Members enhance understanding of:

    • Participation in professional development opportunities
    • Sharing of knowledge of print and media resources
    • Maintaining the Brain Injury library
    • Connection with state and national resources
    • Promotion of prevention education and activities

The Brain Injury Resource Team does not...

    • Replace the responsibilities of the core team (for example: conduct individual assessments, determine entitlement, etc.)
    • Conduct activities in isolation
